This Month's Boston Black Business Spotlight:

Unorthodoks Marketing

Now that your organization's website has been designed and placed on the Internet, it's simply a matter of sitting back and watching the business roll in right? Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple. Websites, like traditional businesses, require an effective marketing strategy. Websites need people coming regularly to make a continuous stream of traffic. In order to generate traffic, your site must deliver a clear message to your target market. Businesses around the world are working on strategies to increase website traffic and then turning that traffic into sales or regular site visitors. Some work, some don't.

"One of the more commonly made mistakes is that many marketing and advertising firms won't take the time to learn enough about your company, its' products and services, the industry that you're in, and the target market you're attempting to reach before taking action" says Keenan Davis, President /CEO of Unorthodoks Marketing.

This Boston-based, Internet focused firm was created in the summer of 98' to address the need for high quality, targeted marketing expertise to be directed towards the fast growing online African-American demographic. "We provide Internet marketing and Web design services to organizations that want to reach the online African-American community" adds the Babson & Bentley College educated, Brooklyn, New York native.

Since its' inception, Unorthodoks Marketing has successfully helped numerous on and offline organizations increase their sales potential and/or build online communities. "The manner by which we do this is the reason that this company is aptly named "Unorthodoks" explains Keenan. "Unorthodoks" is simply a different take on the spelling of the word "unorthodox". Our "Unorthodoks" approach is expressed in two distinct ways: The company motto of "Education before Execution!" and the continuous dedication to discovering innovative yet, effective methods to promote your organization."

"We've adopted the phrase "Education before Execution!" because we firmly believe that the only way we can have a successful relationship with any company is by "educating" ourselves on all aspects of the business before we "execute" any marketing campaign. Without this knowledge, the chance that there will be a favorable result to any efforts becomes less and less likely."

The "Education before Execution" process proved to be invaluable when assisting MyFineArt.com in increasing its' traffic and sales. Unorthodoks Marketing's approach to reaching an intimate understanding of the client and its' industry showed that the stereotypical visitor/customer of www.MyFineArt.com was a 18 - 34 y/o African-American woman with some disposable income.

Accordingly, Unorthodoks Marketing sought to align MyFineArt.com with websites that cater to black women. Joint ventures were designed with a win-win objective in mind. The complementary websites benefited from having the ability to offer black art to their respective communities, which helped to round out their product offerings. Visitors win by enjoying a more complete experience when at these sites. As a result of that and other online promotional techniques, sales went up dramatically and traffic has increased ten-fold and sets new highs for unique visitors with each ensuing month.

Fueled by their marketing expertise, the Unorthodoks Marketing - Design Division constructs websites. Any site developed by Unorthodoks Marketing - Design Division incorporates 4 main principles. These 4 principles are Information, Mood, Visual, and Interactivity/Content. "We believe that any successful website design must take these areas into account" adds Keenan.

Those in need of a web presence, or those with a web presence seeking to increase traffic, sales or advertising dollars would be well advised to seek out the services of Unorthodoks Marketing.
